Canon EOS 700D is a member of Canon’s Rebel series of cameras. It was launched in June 2013. It is an 18.0MP Entry-Level DSLR camera with an APS-C CMOS sensor. It has 1920 x 1080 pixels video resolution along with 5fps continuous shooting feature. The ISO range of the camera is 100 – 12800. 700D appears with a 3” Fully Articulated touch screen. It is also sold as EOS Rebel T5i in some of the countries.
700D comes with 18.0MP APS-C (22.3 x 14.9 mm) sized CMOS sensor and features Digic 5 processor. You can shoot at maximum resolution of 5184 x 3456 pixels with aspect ratios of 1:1, 4:3, 3:2 and 16:9. 700D has a native ISO range of 100 – 12800 (Expandable to 25600) and it can save files in RAW format which gives you a wider room for post processing.
Max Shutter Speed: You can shoot continuously at max speed of 5 fps for 22 JPEG with the Canon 700D. It has max shutter speed of 1/4000 sec.
DxOMark Sensor Scores: DxOMark scientifically assesses image quality of camera sensors. Canon 700D sensor has got an overall score of 61 for its image quality after being tested by DxOMark.
You can record your videos at a highest resolution of 1920 x 1080 pixels at 30, 25, 24 fps and save in H.264 and Motion JPEG formats. A Stereo microphone and a Mono speaker are built-in for recording. It also has a port for an external microphone so that you can record high quality sound with the help of an external microphone.
Canon EOS 700D has a Fully Articulated 3″ LCD Touch screen with a resolution of 1,040,000 dots. It’s rotatable screen is quite helpful for self portraits or group photos. Your life will be easier with its Selfie friendly screen.
Canon 700D has a built-in Optical (pentamirror) viewfinder. The viewfinder has a coverage of 95% and a magnification ratio of 0.53x. 95% coverage. It means that what you see in your viewfinder while shooting will slightly be different from the actual image.
With Canon EOS 700D, you can get both Contrast Detection and Phase Detection autofocus (AF) systems which ensure speed and accuracy of focusing. The AF system has 9 Cross-type focus points. These Cross-type sensors lock focus faster and more accurate compared to single type sensors.
This invention of Canon also features Face detection AF where it intelligently detects the faces in the frame and locks the focus automatically. The given focus modes are One-Shot, AI Focus, AI Servo, Live View and Movie servo.
Compatible devices can be connected to Canon 700D via its HDMI port or USB 2.0(480 Mbps/sec) port. The storage system supports SD (up to 64GB), SDHC or SDXC(UHS-I)card.
Wi-Fi: No Wi-Fi connectivity is built-in which lets you transfer your files wirelessly to compatible devices.
Bluetooth: No Bluetooth connectivity feature available.
Mobile App: Unable to use smartphone as a remote to control camera functions and transfer files using mobile app.
Considering that the average weight of DSLR cameras is 771g, Canon EOS 700D is a remarkably light. It weights 580g only. The width and height of the body is accordingly, 133.1mm and 99.8mm. It has an average thickness of 79mm.
Flash: The camera has a built-in flash. It also has a flash shoe to mount your external flashes too.
Weather Sealing: Canon 7 00D isn’t water and dust proof as it doesn’t have any environmental sealing on its body. So, you need to be extra careful to protect it against water and dust.
Canon 700D is powered by the Canon LP-E8 which is a rechargeable Lithium-Ion battery pack. The LP-E8 operates at a voltage of 7.2V and has a capacity of 1120mAh. According to the CIPA-rating, Canon 700D can take 440 images on a single charge. The average battery life of DSLR type cameras is 910 shots. So, Canon 700D can be considered as below average in terms of battery performance.
